Please attend an "Unhappy Anniversary" Marriage Equality demo next Sat, Feb 27 at noon at Peace Park in the Village of New Paltz, NY. This is the site of historic 2004 weddings by Mayor Jason West. It is located on Plattekill Avenue in New Paltz, adjacent to the Village Hall.
We return here to commemorate the 6th anniversary of the 2004 weddings and to peacefully protest New York State's rejection of same-sex marriage rights.
Brief speeches by Jason West; Jeff Baltes, Board Member of the Hudson Valley LGBTQ Community Center; a representative from Marriage Equality New York; and a representative from the office of Senator Tom Duane, the sponsor of the recently-defeated NYS Marriage Bill.
Bring your children. Show them that we are families as well!
Come with a placard that speaks from your heart.
Suggestions:
-- A sign with a broken heart that reads "Unhappy Anniversary - Still 2nd-class citizens."
-- A sign that reads "10 [for example] years together, ZERO rights as married Americans"
Everyone invited... including bi, trans and straight allies!
Co-sponsored by Marriage Equality of New York and The Hudson Valley LGBTQ Community Center.
Organized by Billiam van Roestenberg and Jay Blotcher, both participants in the 2004 weddings and LGBTQ Center president Lance Ringel.
